TDK has introduced the EP9 series, a new range of 500V gate drive transformers that are smaller than its existing E10EM series. With a compact 11 x 13mm footprint and a height of just 11mm, these transformers provide an efficient and space-saving solution for high-frequency switching applications.
The EP9 series is built on a MnZn ferrite core and features a surface-mount L-pin construction, ensuring reliability and ease of integration into modern power systems. Despite the size reduction, these transformers maintain excellent electrical performance, making them a strong choice for isolated gate drive applications.
Creepage and clearance distance: 5mm
Peak voltage withstand: 2.5kVac @ 50Hz
Low coupling capacitance: 2pF
Operating temperature range: -40 to +150°C
Automotive-grade reliability: Complies with AEC-Q200 Rev E
These features make the EP9 series well-suited for use in automotive and industrial applications, where high isolation and temperature stability are crucial.
Designed to work with both IGBTs and MOSFETs, the EP9 series provides robust gate drive isolation in high-frequency switch-mode power supplies, motor drives, and inverters.
The series includes two models, both optimized for operation between 100kHz and 400kHz:
One for half-bridge converters
One for push-pull converters
Despite being part of the EP9 series, "EP9" does not appear in the part numbers, requiring careful selection based on application needs.
For engineers looking to test and integrate these transformers, TDK offers a sample kit (B82804X1), which includes six of each type, enabling efficient prototyping and evaluation.
