DESCRIPTION:
The TPS81256 device is a complete MicroSiP DC/DC step-up power solution designed for battery-powered portable applications. The package integrates the switching regulator, inductor, and input/output capacitors. Only one tiny additional output capacitor is required to complete the design. The TPS81256 is built on a high-frequency synchronous boost DC/DC converter optimized for battery-powered portable applications. The DC/DC converter operates at a fixed switching frequency of 4MHz and enters power-save mode at light load currents to maintain high efficiency across the entire load current range. PFM mode reduces the supply current to 43µA (typical) during light load operation, extending battery run time. The TPS81256 is suitable for low-power applications, supporting more than 3W of output power across the entire Li-Ion battery voltage range. Input current in shutdown mode is below 1µA (typical), maximizing battery life. Requiring few external components, the TPS81256 provides an extremely small solution size of less than 9mm². The solution is housed in a compact (2.6mm x 2.9mm), low-profile (1.0mm) ball grid array (BGA) package suitable for automated assembly using standard surface mount equipment.
